CalculatorBest — a financial calculator platform built around search intent

A library of financial calculators — EMI, interest, tax, investment and conversion tools — designed as an SEO asset rather than a gimmick. Each calculator targets a specific search intent, loads as a static page, and produces a shareable result.

The problem

Financial calculators are the most searched tools in Indian personal finance, and almost every bank and aggregator publishes one. The competitive reality is that most of them are built as a single single-purpose page: a form, a JavaScript calculation, and very little indexable content. They rank poorly, they look generic, and they give the visitor no reason to trust the number they produce.

The brief was to build the opposite: a platform where each calculator is a first-class page with its own explanation, formula, worked example and FAQ — so the page satisfies the search query directly, rather than being a widget that happens to exist.

What we built

  1. 1

    Reusable calculation engine

Every calculator shares one tested engine rather than each page implementing its own arithmetic. Formulas are covered by automated tests against known reference values, so a change to the amortisation logic cannot silently break six product pages.

  2. 2

    One page per search intent

Each tool gets its own URL, H1, explanation, formula, worked example, interpretation guidance and FAQ. That structure answers the query in the first screen while still giving the crawler substantive content to index.

  3. 3

    Server-rendered pages

Calculators are server-rendered HTML with progressive JavaScript enhancement. The page is readable and indexable before any script runs, and the calculation works on a slow connection.

  4. 4

    Structured data and internal linking

FAQPage and WebApplication schema on every tool, BreadcrumbList throughout, plus contextual internal links between related calculators — EMI to prepayment, prepayment to amortisation — so authority flows to the pages worth ranking.

  5. 5

    Shareable results

A result can be encoded into the URL and shared, which turns a completed calculation into a link somebody else opens. That is the cheapest acquisition channel available to a tool like this.

Outcome

The platform demonstrates the principle the whole engagement rested on: a tool page competes on how completely it satisfies the query, not on how clever the widget is. Making the formula, the worked example and the interpretation visible is what turns a utility into a landing page that earns links.

The same engine now powers the eligibility and EMI calculations used inside our NBFC product work — a shared asset rather than six months of duplicated code.

What we would carry forward

  • A calculator without explanatory content is a widget nobody links to.
  • Testing the arithmetic is cheap; a wrong number on a finance page is not.
  • Server-rendering a form is still the fastest way to make it indexable.
